Will Houghton has many years of experience teaching people of all ages and in many different situations in Ashburnham, Massachusetts. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Science Education and a Master’s degree in Elementary Education. He learned quickly in his long career in education teaching at private and public schools, adults and kids, and in all parts of the community in Ashburnham that the key to effective teaching is to connect with his students so that they can get the information and the support they need from him. Today, Houghton teaches students how to survive and rescue injured people in wilderness situations or after a natural disaster. Houghton has experience climbing remote and high mountains and working with communities as a medical health provider at clinics around the world. Mountain Medicine, Inc. was founded in the late 1970s by a group of medical health professionals who wanted to help others help others. Will Houghton wanted to be a part of the nonprofit organization near Ashburnham because he wanted to offer his own skills teaching and helping people as a doctor and medic in the field. He is the director of the organization and he believes that his students should be prepared to help their peers in dangerous situations and be in position to help others in the event of a natural disaster. Houghton was one of the first doctors on the ground after the Haitian earthquake of 2010. He helped set up a medical clinic in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince despite a lack of communication, resources, and support from the local and international government.

Houghton is always looking for the next challenge and opportunity in his career. Will Houghton loves to help people learn how to help each other in the wild or after natural disasters, but he wants to broaden his experience and skill by volunteering and traveling to different places as much as possible.
